Gen Z, slang
brokie
Meaning
- A person with little or no money.
- Used self-deprecatingly about your own spending.
“Can’t make brunch, I’m a brokie this month.”
Where it came from
A casual diminutive of broke, built the same way as other slang words ending in -ie. It gained traction on TikTok in the early 2020s as a lighthearted way to talk about being short on cash.
