Where it came from
From ballroom culture, built by Black and Latino queer and trans New Yorkers, where to be clocked meant to be recognized against your will in an unsafe crowd. Reality shows like RuPaul’s Drag Race carried the term to a wider audience, and TikTok commentary turned clock it into shorthand for catching any small, telling detail.
