1. Ending a relationship or friendship by cutting off all contact without explanation.

Where it came from

The word plays on the idea of vanishing like a ghost. It moved from general slang into dating vocabulary in the early 2010s as texting and dating apps made disappearing easier than a real breakup conversation.
