Meaning

1. Low quality, mass produced content, especially AI-generated text, images, or video.
2. Any bulk output valued for volume over quality.

Where it came from

The word carries its older sense of watery, low grade food fed to animals. It picked up its content meaning around 2022 and 2023 as generative tools flooded feeds with junk, and “AI slop” became common shorthand in tech writing by 2024.
