YOLO

Meaning

  1. An exclamation used to justify a reckless or spontaneous decision.
  2. (noun) A reckless, live in the moment attitude.

“I know it’s a work night. YOLO, one more round.”

Where it came from

The acronym for you only live once had scattered earlier use, but Drake’s 2011 song “The Motto” put the phrase in its chorus. The song’s early 2012 popularity turned YOLO into one of the year’s most quoted catchphrases, and Oxford Dictionaries shortlisted it that same year.
