slang

mewing

Meaning

  1. Resting the whole tongue on the roof of the mouth, said to sharpen the jawline.
  2. A hand signal, a finger to the lips and then along the jaw, meaning “I can’t talk, I’m mewing.”

“Don’t ask him anything. He’s mewing.”

Where it came from

From orthotropics, a jaw-posture method promoted by the British orthodontist John Mew and his son Mike. Evidence for the jawline claim is thin. Teenagers mew anyway.
